All to play for on the final day of the 2024 Donegal International Rally

The stage has been set for a grandstand finish on the final day of the 2024 Donegal International Rally.

British driver Matt Edwards and 2023 winner Callum Devine have been locked in battle over the first two days of the event, often trading fastest stage times and ragging everything they can out of their Rally2 machinery.

Edwards still leads the way in his Ford Fiesta R2 coming into the final day, holding a lead of 16.2 seconds over Derry man Devine and his Skoda.

Both men had major moments out on the stages yesterday, Edwards ending up with two wheels in the ditch but powering through, and Devine having a major spin and stall that cost him in excess of 13 seconds.

The battle behind them for the final podium spot is still far from over too, with Meirion Evans currently holding third spot in his Toyota GR Yaris sitting 53.9 seconds off the lead.

He is closely chased by three contenders all within 20 seconds, Cathan McCourt’s Ford Focus in fourth is 6 seconds off Evans, with David Kelly’s Wolkswagen Polo and Josh Moffett’s Citroen another 10 seconds back.

Drivers will leave service in Letterkenny just after 11am this morning, with drivers heading out for the first of six stages in Gartan which gets underway at 11:40.

They will take on the Gartan, Atlantic Drive and Fanad Head stages twice today before a winner is crowned this evening in Letterkenny.

The ceremony at the winner’s ramp at the Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny is currently scheduled for 6:35pm.
