A man has been put off the road after being caught more than two times the legal drink-drive limit when a concerned member of the public alerted Gardai to his driving.
Ion Stenca has been disqualified from driving for two years following the incident on May 26, 2020.
At 3pm, Gardai received a call from a member of the public about a possible drink-driver on the Letterkenny-Glenties road.
Gardai responded and stopped a silver Audi A4. Stenca failed a roadside breath test.
Stenca, a 68-year-old of Ballymacool Wood, Letterkenny, was arrested and conveyed to Letterkenny Garda Station. A subsequent test at the station showed 118 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.
An interpreter was present in court to assist Stenca, a foreign national.
Mr Patsy Gallagher, solicitor for Stenca, said his client has been in Ireland for the last 26 years and is a married man with three grown up children. Mr Gallagher told the court that Stenca is currently receiving treatment for ill health and is not driving at present.
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham convicted Stenca and fined him €150. Stenca was also disqualified from driving for two years and Mr Gallagher said his client was not applying for a postponement of the ban.
