Sinn Féin Chief Whip Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD has called for urgent Dáil discussions about hostilities in Gaza and Israel.
Deputy Mac Lochlainn wrote to the Ceann Comhairle and Dáil Business Committee yesterday to demand that the Dáil reconvenes to discuss the conflict, in which over 1,100 people have been killed. A surprise bombardment was launched by the Palestinian Islamist militant group Hamas on Sunday. So far, more than 120,000 people have been displaced.
The Dáil meets again on Tuesday for Budget 2024.
“It is clear that decisive international intervention is needed in Palestine,” said Deputy Mac Lochlainn.
“There must be an urgent end to hostilities in Gaza and Israel. Sinn Féin are calling for decisive international intervention to bring about a lasting and just solution to the Palestinian question.
“It is appropriate that the Dáil would convene at the earliest opportunity to discuss the role that Ireland can play to demonstrate leadership and work with the international community towards securing peace.”
