Here’s a roundup from all the action this week in the Donegal Women’s League, as trophies at U12 and U16 levels were decided.
Under 12 Crystal Cup Final 2024
Cappry Rovers B 0 – 2 Kildrum Tigers
Kildrum girls travelled to Ballyare today for the crystal cup final against Cappry Rovers. The game got underway with Kildrum got off to flyer with Áine Bovaird speeding down the line and burst past two players. She delivered a low cross into Evie Gallagher who, with a delicate first-time touch slotted the ball past the oncoming keeper. Great start for Kildrum taking the lead after 4mins. The early goal settled Kildrum into the game and both teams battled hard in warm temperatures. With both teams having great chances in this half Kildrum went into the half time break 1 -0 up. Second half got underway and Kildrum almost got a carbon copy of the first half with Sophie Mc Crabbe getting an excellent chance 4 mins into the second half. Cappry were battling hard to get an equaliser with Molly Mc Devitt striking the ball just over the bar. Kildrum looking extremely dangerous with every break with Haper Lynch Mahon and Áine Bovaird really testing Cappry defence in both flanks. Kildrum’s captain Aoife Foy was quickest to react to Capprys lapse in defence she ran through and chipped the ball over the oncoming keeper. 2-0 to Kildrum. With temperatures soaring the tigers were roaring at the final whistle. An excellent achievement for these Kildrum girls with some very young players in this squad. Congratulations to Áine Bovaird who was awarded player of the match. Thanks to our ref Joshua Wade and lines men Ciaran Logue and Daniel Doherty.

Group 1
Gweedore Celtic 4 – 2 St Catherine’s
The final match of the 2nd phase was played in very damp conditions. Both teams started with determination playing some fine soccer. Gweedore took the lead on 17 minutes with a goal from Nia Richardson after a great run from Aoibhinn Diver. Gweedore scored their second 2 minutes later with a class finish from Aisling O Donnell into the right-hand corner. There was absolutely nothing the St. Catherine’s goalkeeper could do. St. Catherine scored their first goal on 21 minutes with a lovely run and finish from S. Gillespie McMenamin, and she was finished scoring her second goal 2 minutes later. Halftime score was 2 goals apiece. The wind dropped slightly in the second half. Aoife Mc Gee was moved into the centre forward position for the second half, and this proved to be a good decision by the Gweedore management. After a great run from midfield, Aoife scored Gweedore’s 3rd goal 5 minutes into the second half. The Katy Bonner, Aoife Mc Gee duo, were proving to be a bit of a problem for St. Catherine’s defence. Another great run from Aoife Mc Gee saw her score her second goal of the evening in the 50th minute. Aoife was unfortunate not to get her hat trick with a few very close efforts, but St. Catherine’s goalkeeper pulled off some superb saves, and it was not to be. St. Catherine’s had a number of chances of their own, but some good saves from Cliodhna Ferry denied them a third goal. Best for St. Catherine’s S Gillespie McMenamin. Best for Gweedore Celtic Aoife Mc Gee.
Group 2
Lagan Harps – Gweedore United (Lagan Win)
Lagan played some of our best football of the season in the second half as they eventually overcame a battling Keadue side. Jodie Rodgers scored four in an impressive performance up front. Lagan got off to a flier with Jodie scoring in the first minute from a Teaghan Doherty ross. Gweedore equalised on five minutes when Muireann Gallagher reacted first to knock in a corner. Lagan then were awarded a penalty but Shauna Clift saved Sinead Mc Loughlin’s effort. Gweedore went close again when Ciara Cullen forced a shot from Lucie Boyd against the crossbar. Cara Mc Fadden and Saoirse Mc Bride got in some good challenges as Gweedore pressed. Lily Hamlyn then knock a rebound over the bar as we threatened. The half settled down after this and finished 1-1. Gweedore started the second half well with Neasa Diver and Chloe Mc Fadden causing us problems. Chloe put them ahead on thirty-eight minutes when she beat a few defenders and finished well. Lagan responded immediately with Jodie Rodgers powering in a shot from the edge of the area. She then scored another after a powerful run and shot. Sinead Mc Loughlin got in on the act with a good finish from the edge of the area. Gweedore were still threatening, and Ciara Cullen pulled off some good saves. Sinead got her second on sixty minutes before Jodie scored her fourth from a narrow angle. It was a well contested game throughout with the final scoreline harsh on Gweedore. Finn Canning doing well as referee.
Group 3
Swilly Rovers – Dunfanaghy Youths (Swilly Win)
In their final league game of the season the Swilly u14 had an impressive victory over a resolute and determined Dunfanaghy. Goals from Ava Greer, Jessica Sweeney and Sophia Gorney in the first half set them on their way and meant they could ay with a little compusure. Some wonderful passing from the back 4 into midfield meant Dunfanaghy had to stay alert at all times with excellent work rate keeping them competitive. Swilly kept pressing however and Jessica added to her tally before the break. Dunfanaghy came out fighting in the second half and certainly caused the girls some problems but with plenty of defensive practice all season they dealt with everything thrown at them. Ava soon added another and Jessica ran through for her hat trick leaving the keeper with no chance. A first goal for Siomha McFadden who attacked the corner kicked in by Jessica looked to have wrapped things up but Ava Greer had the final say and got her hat trick with a fine run and finish in the top corner close to the end. Full respect for Dunfanaghy for keeping their heads up and fighting to the end. A brand new team who entered the DWL this year, much like ourselves last year, they will go from strength on today’s showing. Thanks to Sinead Hagan for refereeing.
Under 16
Under 16 Vase Final
Lagan Harps 4-1 Cappry Rovers
Lagan had to survive a strong Cappry revival, before going on to win. They started well and took the lead with a good finish from wide by Claragh Gallagher on nine minutes. Cappry came more into the game, but Claragh put Lagan two clear on twenty-seven minutes. Teaghan Doherty and Ebony Griffin went close as we chased a third. Mikaela Breen, Amy Lateef and Sinead Mc Loughlin were really playing well for Lagan through the midfield. Cappry came out strongly in the second half and began to cause Lagan problems. They deservedly got one back on forty-three minutes with a good finish from Megan Doherty. Lagan were hanging on at this stage with Ciara Cullen pulling off some good saves while Cara Mc Fadden and Jodie Rodgers got in some vital challenges. Lagan brought back on some of the rested players, and we took control again. Claragh Gallagher completed her hattrick with another good finish from wide on the right. Sinead Mc Loughlin then scored a late fourth, which she deserved for another great performance. The Lagan girls had some tough games through the year and came away with a trophy for their efforts. The majority of the Lagan players were u14s so they will early all be u16s next season. Cappry deserved a lot of credit for making it a tough battle. Thanks to referee Daniel Doherty for a good job.
