Finn Harps duo Aaron McLaughlin and Sean Patton impressed for the Republic of Ireland Under 19s in last night’s defeat to France in Slovenia.
Patton was named in the starting XI while McLaughlin came off the bench, making an immediate impact by winning an 87th minute penalty.
Cian Dillon converted the spot-kick, however, it was a consolation score as France scored either side of half-time to win 2-1.
Kerrykeel-native McLaughlin (18) made the squad for the first time.
He has made 12 appearances for the Harps this season and will be hoping to feature in the upcoming friendlies as Ireland prepare for their European Qualifiers.
Drumkeen native Patton, who is on loan from Derry City, made his Under 19 debut in March of this year against Slovakia in a friendly and scored as Ireland won 3-1.
Patton played five games in the Premier Division for the Candy Stripes before going on loan to the Harps this summer. He scored the winner on his debut against Kerry and has made seven appearances to date.
The pair will miss Finn Harps’ match away to Athlone Town tonight as a result of their involvement in the series of friendlies.
Head Coach and former Finn Harps player, Tom Mohan, has named a 23-man squad for games against France, Kazakhstan and Slovenia.
Ireland will take on Kazakhstan tomorrow and will finish up the games next Tuesday, September 10, against Slovenia. All matches will be played in Slovenia.
