Man ‘fishtailed’ pickup truck on Letterkenny street

A man who ’fishtailed’ a pickup truck in busy Letterkenny street has been convicted in court.

Letterkenny District Court heard details of the incident involving Richard Kerr, who was before the court over the incident on June 18, 2023.

Gardai were on patrol at Pearse Road, when they observed a silver Nissan Navara perform a ‘fishtailing’ manoeuvre as it drove along the road in heavy traffic.

Gardai pulled the vehicle over and spoke to the driver, Kerr, who is a 23-year-old of Crevenagh Road, Omagh, County Tyrone.

Sergeant Gerard Dalton told the court that there was a large number of cars and pedestrians in the area at the time, which was the weekend of the Donegal International Rally,

Kerr, who has no previous convictions, was said to be apologetic to Gardai.

Kerr’s solicitor, Mr Frank Dorrian, handed in a reference from Kerr’s employer.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham said the court did not condone such behaviour. Kerr was convicted and fined €200. Noting that he has no previous convictions and is in employment, Kerr was spared a disqualification by the judge.
