Man in court over alleged assault in Tesco car park over ‘photos’ bust-up

A man has appeared in court after assaulting another man he believed had sent pictures of himself to his wife.

Deli Krzysztof, with an address at Cnoc Ard, Mountain Top, Letterkenny, was before Letterkenny District Court.

Krzysztof is charged with the assault at Tesco car park in Letterkenny on August 26, 2023 at 5.30pm.

Sergeant Gerard Dalton told the court that the injured party attended Letterkenny Garda Station in a frantic state.

The man said he was parking his car when another vehicle, a grey Audi, parked behind him. A male exited the Audi, approached him and started to hit him with closed fists, the court heard.

The men, both Polish nationals, were known to each other, Sergeant Dalton said, and had been friends in the past.

Solicitor for Krzysztof, Mr Frank Dorrian, said his client has been in Ireland for 18 years and has no history of disorderly conduct.

“The complaint was that images of himself were sent to my client’s wife,” Mr Dorrian said. “That is nto a reason to go around assaulting one another.”

Mr Dorrian added that there was also an issue over a €150 “debt of some kind”.

“It is not an acceptable mode of conduct,” Mr Dorrian added. “Unfortunately, when he saw him in the car park, he said ‘right’ and there was an assault. It has not been repeated and will not be repeated.”

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham asked for a victim impact statement and adjourned the case until November 11.
