The court heard that Rostas entered McIntyre’s Filling Station, Doonan Roundabout, Donegal Town on December 9, 2022 at 6.30pm. Garda witness told the court that Rostas engaged in a so-called quick change scam, whereby a staff operator is confused in relation to change.
Rostas was identified by gardai who viewed CCTV footage. Rostas was arrested and made full admissions.
A 29-year-old with an address at Main Street, Convoy, Rostas is charged that he did dishonestly by deception induce a person to do an act, to wit, hand over €230 with the intention of making gain for himself and causing loss to another. The offence is contrary to Section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001.
Solicitor for Rostas, Mr Patsy Gallagher, said his client has been in Ireland for almost 20 years and has no previous convictions. He said Rostas is a single man who has had some health issues.

Judge Ciaran Liddy convicted Rostas, fined him €150 and allowed three months to pay.
