Martin Harley: Putting infrastructure, housing and business first

Article Sponsored by Martin Harley, Fine Gael

Councillor Martin Harley, the current Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, is determined to continue delivering for the community as he seeks re-election in the Lifford-Stranorlar Local Electoral area.

A native of Ballybofey, Cllr Harley was first elected to office in 2000 and has been re-elected in the last three local elections.

He said: “The last five years have been a difficult time for everyone with the arrival of the Covid 19 pandemic. There are many challenges ahead over the next 5 years and I would like you to give me the opportunity to work through these challenges as one of your 6 local Councillors.

Here are some of the things I want to work on:

  • The Ballybofey / Stranorlar bypass is finally in sight and I expect work on the ground within 3 years.
  • We need to make affordable housing a priority for people who fall between earning too much money to be eligible for social housing and not earning enough to get a mortgage. This along with the grants to renovate old houses and ensuring that all people affected by Mica are given full redress so they can get on with their lives.
  • Greenways are so important here in East Donegal and it was great to open the Lifford to Castlefin  Greenway in the last few weeks. I as your Public Representative want this to continue this onto  Ballybofey / Stranorlar and on to Donegal Town through the beautiful Barnesmore Gap.
  • We as a County Council need to work with Government to put the proper supports in place to ensure the viability of small to medium businesses and encourage new businesses.
  • I want to work with Uisce Éireann to ensure all our towns and villages are connected to an efficient water supply and treatment plants.
