National: All-Ireland winning manager John O’Mahony dies

Former All-Ireland winning manager with Galway, John O’Mahony, has died.

His passing at the age of 71 was announced this morning.

He famously won two All-Ireland Football titles with Galway in 1998 and 2001, the county’s most recent footballing successes.

The Mayo native also managed his own county, as well as Leitrim in a decorated managerial career, taking Connacht championships with both counties.

Alongside his sucesses on the pitch, he was also elected as a Fine Gael TD in Mayo in 2007, a role he would keep until 2016.
