Penalty king Patton hails bond with team and management

Penalty hero Shaun Patton said there’s “nothing like it” after he took his turn lifting the Anglo Celt at Clones yesterday.

The St Eunan’s man logged his name into the GAA history annals after his dramatic stop from Armagh’s Shane McPartlan to help get Donegal over the line after a titanic struggle with Kieran McGeeney’s men.

And the Letterkenny man even suggested that last year’s challenges when they found themselves almost down and out may have helped toughen Donegal.

“We were in a tough place last year and we came through it.

“It might not have been the worst thing ever to happen us as a team because we got tight and bonded together as a team.

“Thankfully Jim came back in and he’s put in a lot of work with his backroom staff and everyone involved.

“The work put in is unbelievable and it means everything for the people of Donegal, not just the players. The following of Donegal is unbelievable.

“It’s a proud moment for us and Donegal football to be back up the stairs in Clones and lifting that Anglo Celt.

“There’s nothing like it.”
