Ramelton man to stand trial on alleged underage sex offence charges

A Ramelton man is to stand trial in connection with the sexual offences against a child.

Joseph Coyle, of Castle Street, Ramelton, appeared at Letterkenny District Court.

Garda Sergeant Jim Collins said the Director of Public Prosecutions had sent the accused forward for trial at the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court commencing on April 23rd next.

The 40-year-old year accused man faces a total of three charges.

He is accused that on dates between October 16th, 2020 and November 10th, 2020 at Castle Street, Ramelton, he did attempt by means of information and communication technology to facilitate the sexual exploitation of a child under seventeen years. The charge is contrary to Section 8 (1) of the criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act, 2017, contrary to common law.

He is also accused that on the same dates and at the sae location, he did attempt to cause a child under seventeen year to watch sexual activity. This charge is contrary to Section 6 (1) of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act, 2017, contrary to common law.

He is also charged that April 1st, 2023 at Castle Street, Ramelton, did knowingly have in his possession child pornography to wit, 8 images contained on an Eir tablet. This charge is contrary to Section 6 (1) of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, 1998.

The accused man’s solicitor, Mr Patsy Gallagher, requested a junior and a senior counsel to represent Coyle at the Circuit Court.

Bail was fixed on the same terms.
