Raphoe welcomes home Olympic hero Rachael Darragh

Raphoe welcomed home its newest Olympic hero last night.

Raphoe Badminton Club’s Rachael Darragh was celebrated at her homecoming ceremony, surrounded by the local community as well as her family.

Rachael made her Olympic debut in Paris in the women’s singles badminton competition, earning a tough draw for her group.

She faced off against Rio 2016 gold medalist and eventual Paris semi-finalist Carolina Marín, as well as European Games bronze medallist Jenjira Stadelmann.

While she ultimately fell to defeat in both games, she did her local community proud in making the games and competing against two of the best players in the Olympic field.

Thanks to Joe Boland of Northwest Newspix for these great shots of Rachael’s welcome home.
