Scoil Mhuire Buncrana 1-05 v 0-09 Gallen Community School Ferbane

Scoil Mhuire Buncrana suffered a heartbreaking defeat in today’s All-Ireland Post Primary Football Senior D Championship Final after a gallant effort.

The Buncrana boys registered the first score of the game from a Sean McLaughlin free kick just 5 minutes into the contest, before a scoring spree began for the Inishowen side.

Billy Duffy knocked over a point in the tenth minute, before a poor kick out from the Gallen goalkeeper led to another Scoil Mhuire score for McLaughlin.

Sean Bradley then scored a brilliant solo goal to put Scoil Mhuire 1-03 to 0-00 in front with just 12 minutes played and all the momentum.

Gallen were able to pull back 3 points before half time, with 2 of those scores coming in the final 5 minutes of the first half to give the Offaly men some momentum going into the break.

Both sides traded scores in the first 15 minutes of the second half, leaving Scoil Mhuire with a 1-04 to 0-04 lead heading into the final quarter of this defensive struggle.

A Scoil Mhuire score in the 46th minute would end up being their final of the contest, as Gallen charged back with three unanswered points setting up a nailbiting finish.

Then as the game reached the end of regulation time, Gallen were able to strike a crucial free to take their first lead of the game at the worst possible time for the Buncrana boys.

A frantic 5 minutes of added time followed, with both sides having opportunities to strike and frantic scrambles for the ball taking place all over the pitch.

In the end the fantastic Scoil Mhuire Buncrana effort came up just short, with Gallen Community School taking home the All-Ireland Schools Senior D title.
