Super sub Lee steers Letterkenny Rovers to impressive win

Lee McMonagle was introduced in the early minutes of the second-half with Letterkenny Rovers ahead by 1-0 against visitors Clonmany Shamrocks in this Ulster Junior Cup clash. He helped himself to a hat-trick as they coasted to victory with a dominate performance which saw them add five goals to their first-half opener.

Rovers, unbeaten and leading Division One of the Donegal league, the home side were always the better and could have led by more at the break.

Conor Tourish almost gave Rovers an early lead , his header from Zac Gorman’s long throw hitting the post. Two minutes later Jason Devlin could have put the visitors ahead after good work by Aaron Porter, Mark Anthony McGinley saved well to deny him.

Nathan Plumb twice went close for Rovers in quick succession Liam McGonigle saved well on both occasions. Rovers made the breakthrough in the 21st minute, the impressive Zac Gorman powering into the box and drilling a piledriver into the bottom corner.

Joel Gorman and Gabby Aduaka were just off target and in the final minute of the half Cloanmany’s Shane McCaul also went close.

jake Harkin could have done better with a free header just after the break but Rovers responded quickly with their second goal, Lee McMonagle cross found Zac Gorman who’s stylish ‘Rabona ‘ hit the post and Nathan Plumb scrambled the ball to the net at the third attempt.

With their two goal lead Rovers dominated after this and added four more goals , a hat-trick from Lee McMonagle and a long range cracker from Joel Gorman.

Leon Doherty set-up McMonagle with his first, Nathan Plumb did the build-up to his second after a long Mark A McGinley kick-out and Zac Gorman’s long throw providing the opportunity for his hat-trick goal as it ended 6-0 to the home side.
